In the eye of the beholder

We all see beauty in different ways - it is a matter of personal opinion, not an objective truth. So, what always delights me is seeing Bute through the eyes of another. Inevitably, the beauty of the island is captured from angles and locations that are new to me. It feels fresh and novel, and it makes me pine to return.

I am absolutely thrilled that so many of my friends and family are visiting Bute and electing to stay in my little flat. It brings me enormous joy and seeing their photos and what they choose to capture is simply wonderful. I love seeing it all through their eyes and hearing about what they enjoyed most during their adventure.

The latest visitor is a dear friend of mine - the lovely Jane. Jane and I met through work and she is simply one of the most delightful, kind and caring souls I have ever encountered. She is much loved by many, including me. So, when Jane told me that she was off to Scotland, I didn't hesitate to offer my Kyles of Bute flat. I was thrilled when she accepted and included Bute in her travels. And by all accounts, she didn't regret that decision one bit.

What was most interesting to me, was her exploration of Rothesay and Bute and what she stopped to photograph. She explored many parts of the island - both on foot and in a very luxurious rental car (hello upgrade!). The weather was perfect and Jane maximised her time outside, enjoying the sunshine.

Jane perfectly captured the quaint historical beauty of Rothesay, and I was particularly pleased to see that she stopped to take photos of the cemetery on the High Street, where my Great Grandfather, William Morris, is buried. And no trip to Rothesay is complete without a visit to the impressive castle, windy Serpentine Road or the Victorian Promenade.

To my delight, Jane followed my advice and took a day trip to Inverary. It is a stunning drive and well worth the effort. I loved these photos in particular.

Jane also enjoyed several walks and loved seeing the little homes that the locals leave for small creatures in the woods. Bute (& Scotland) is a truly magical place and much can be discovered on foot.

And as always, the rear window of my flat featured in Jane's photos, proving once again to be a happy place to sit and ponder life. The ever changing views provided Jane with much to look at during her stay.

Jane threw herself into the Bute experience with sheer delight and enthusiasm. In her exploration on Bute, few stones were left unturned. However, a very special stone was left behind in the bathroom, alongside the small pile already there. Thank you Jane - I can't wait to see you when you return to Australia.
